Car Care Tips for Storing Items in Your Car

Car Care Tips for Storing Items in Your Car

Sometimes, keeping things in your car is convenient. Why haul your gym bag from the gym to your house when you can keep it in the car? Even little items that you constantly use on the road are just better to store in the car than at home. However, with the possibility of thieves and the need to keep the car tidy and smelling fresh, storing items in the car is not always the best option. So what do you do if you terribly need to keep things in your car? How do you safely do it while still maintaining the place organized? Here are a couple of car care tips to help you:

Removing Smelly Clothes from Your Gym Bag

If you’re storing your gym bag in the car, then chances are that your car will smell of sweat whenever you hop in. Not only can this be irritating when you drive, but it will surely ruin your car’s cleanliness. A simple way to fix this situation is to remove any smelly clothes or towels from your gym bag. Leave the bag in the car, but take the clothes and towels home for a wash. Then, the next time you’re going to the gym, place those clean items back in the gym bag. Easy, right? Plus, now you don’t have to deal with wearing sweaty clothes to the gym.

Tucking the GPS and Toll Pass in the Glove Compartment

An important car care tip to keep in mind is hiding any items that a thief might try to break into your car for. These things might be simple items like a GPS, Toll Pass (Sun Pass), quarters, and whatnot. In order to keep these in your car but still preserve your car’s orderliness, tuck them in the glove compartment. If they’re out of sight, a thief won’t try anything, and you’ll still be able to have them around.

Placing Auxiliary Cords, Pens, and Little Items in the Console

You probably already store small items in your car’s console. However, if the console doesn’t have compartments, your items might be on top of one another. In other words, they’re a tangled mess. An easy way to fix this problem is to buy a console organizer. These organizers have compartments that allow you to separate your items in a structured fashion. For instance, you would place your auxiliary cord with the flash drive that contains all your songs. All your pens and sticky notes would go together, and your quarters can even be collected in one compartment.

Throw Away Trash

It’s not a secret that there are a lot of lazy people out there who would rather keep trash in their cars than carry them over to a garbage can. If you’re one of those people, then this is an essential car care tip you’ll need to go by. Always throw away any trash that makes it into your car. If you have a takeout food bag, dump it out. It’ll bring ants and bad odor, anyway. If your friends leave receipts, plastic water bottles, or just about anything that is messy in your car, get rid of them (the trash…not your friends). This will keep your car tidy even when you decide to store certain items.

Bicycles, Tires, and Such…

Sometimes you might want to store a bike (there are cool, foldable bikes out there!) or an emergency car tire. Just be sure that these items are clean and mud-free. You don’t want to dirty your trunk. If you can’t get them cleaned, place a blanket underneath them so that the carpet doesn’t get dirty.

Place Dryer Sheets under Car Seats

As for removing bad odor and keeping the car smelling fresh while you store items in your car, a simple car care tip to follow is placing dryer sheets under your car seats. You could place one dryer sheet or more, but no matter what, your car will smell amazing for months.

You can easily store items in your car while keeping the area organized, tidy, and odor-free. Just follow these car care tips, and your car will be spectacular again.
