Car Care Tips for Cleaning After Your Pets

Car Care Tips for Cleaning After Your Pets

Pets are a part of our family. They come with us on vacations, they take hikes by our side, and they feel sad when we do. And just like kids, they can be messy. For those of us who bring our pets, like our beloved dogs, into our cars, this can mean finding urine stains and lots and lots of fallen hair. Not only can this be gross to clean up, but it can make the car smell and look like a zoo. Nevertheless, with the following car care tips, you should be able to clean after your pets and return your car into its old, lovely self:

Urine stains

If your dog, or any other cherished pet, peed in your car, it can be irritating having to wash it out. Though, it doesn’t have to be difficult. Just put on some gloves and do the following:

Use either a mild laundry detergent or soap to clean away the stain. Take a wet cloth and apply a small amount of laundry detergent or soap to one particular area and use that area to dab the urine stain. Dab with caution, and never use too much soap on the stain (a little goes a long way and is easier to clean off with water after). After you have dabbed the stain a couple of times and it is no longer visible, use a different corner of the wet cloth where there is no soap or laundry detergent and dab at the stain area until the soap is just about gone. Not too bad!

Shedding Hair

There is no way to avoid it; pets shed a lot of hair. It is just how they are. But this means that we need to remove that hair, and that can be frustrating. An easy way to get rid of that much fallen hair is to a) vacuum and b) use a lint roller (if your car seats are not made of leather, of course). In fact, vacuuming regularly when you have pets in your car a lot can help immensely. Plus, the lint roller can get the hairs that even the vacuum couldn’t remove.

Placing Blankets over the Seats

Another smart car care tip to follow if you have pets in your car a lot is to place blankets over the seats and backrest. This way, you won’t have to deal with having to clean and vacuum the seats themselves. Instead, all you would have to do is remove the blankets when your pets are not in the car and shake the blankets outside. You can also put those blankets in the washer machine and quickly remove any urine stains. Easy stuff!

Using Dryer Sheets to Freshen the Smell

A fantastic and simple way to eliminate the bad odors your pets brought with them into the car (through their urine stains or a different way) is to place dryer sheets underneath car seats. This will leave a fresh scent in the vehicle. What is even better about this method is the fact that it works even when you are not in the car. Actually, it works its best when the car is locked up and the sun is warming up the place; that is when the dryer sheets give off the most fragrance.

Following these car care tips for cleaning up after your pets will help you keep your vehicle clean all year long even while enjoying your pets’ presence. You don’t need to keep your adored pet out of your car just to keep it well-maintained. If you do these simple techniques, you will never again struggle to keep the car clean.
