Car Detail Tips to Removing Love Bugs from Your Vehicle

Car Detail Tips to Removing Love Bugs from Your Vehicle

In just a few weeks, Florida will be entering the love bug season. If you’ve lived here long enough, you’ve probably come in contact with these pesky creatures. Although they’re completely harmless to people, since they don’t bite or carry diseases and only eat decaying plants, they can still ruin your car. Their bodies are filled with an acidic fluid, which can damage the paint on your vehicle if they happen to collide with your car and die, turning into carcasses and literally leaving a destructive residue on the paint. Unfortunately for many Floridians, there’s no way to avoid love bugs attempting to embed themselves on people’s cars. As they mate, they let the wind carry them here and there, and so it is by chance (a very big chance) that these bugs bond with your car. What is there to do then if love bugs are stuck to your vehicle, possibly dead and dry? We have a couple of useful tips to help you remove these bugs off just like we do at our car detail center.

Act Fast

The best thing you can do for your car when love bugs start attaching to it is to take it to a car detail center as soon as possible, before the love bugs turn into carcasses. Having professionals wash your car with their proper tools and bug removal products is safer than you doing so using regular items found around the house, such as sponges and dirty rags. Cleaning your car with such improper objects can end up scratching at the paint and even removing some paint along with the love bugs. However, if you are fixed on removing love bugs yourself for one reason or another, then it is still best to act fast. Removing them before they dry up and decay is recommended if you want to prevent causing damage to the paint. Yet, if they’ve been on your car for some time now, you can still get rid of them carefully.

Use a Bug Cleaner and Microfiber Cloth

Never rely on regular soap and cleaning detergents. If you read such advice anywhere online, ignore it as it is wrong. Also, some people recommend using products like cooking spray, but that is just wrong too. Please don’t ruin your paint just to remove love bugs. The first step you should take to eradicate all the bugs is to purchase a microfiber cloth; it is safe on the paint unlike regular rags and sponges. Then, invest in a degreaser or bug cleaner product, such as Rain-X Bug Remover or SuperClean Cleaner-Degreaser (which is biodegradable). Next, spray your car with water before you spray or apply the degreaser or bug cleaner product over areas where love bugs have made themselves comfortable with your car. Wait a few minutes for the product to do its job. Doing so softens the bugs. At last, you can use the microfiber cloth to wipe the love bugs off with ease. Then, it is recommended to wash your car to remove any degreaser residue. Of course, going to a car wash and car detail center is the best method, since water is recycled, the cleaning products and tools are ecofriendly and safe on the paint, and you actually end up saving money by not using gallons and gallons of excessive water at home that only increase your water bills.

Wash Your Car Weekly

After you’ve removed the love bugs, it is a wise choice to wash your car weekly until the love bug season ends. Doing so ensures that any bugs that stick to your car don’t remain there long enough to decay and ruin the paint with their acid. Most of our customers select our Unlimited Car Wash Club where for one low monthly fee, you can wash your car as often as you like. Some of our customers come EVERYDAY!

Preventing Love Bugs from Harming Your Car In The Future

While you can’t avoid love bugs attacking your car, you can prevent them from sticking around and harming the car. The top two methods that work wonders are getting a paint sealant treatment and having the car waxed. By going to a professional car detail center and getting these treatments, your car will not only be shiny, the paint will be slippery too, making it difficult for love bugs to stay on. As soon as they make contact with your car, they’ll slide off and go elsewhere.

With these simple tips, you’ll be able to remove love bugs off your front bumper and other areas of your car without ruining the paint in the process. You’ll also be able to keep these creatures away from your car, so you can always have a nice ride. Once you follow these tips, love bug season won’t affect you one bit.
