Take Care of Your Car in the Summer with Car Detailing
Here in Florida, the heat cannot be avoided. Although it rains a lot in the summer, the temperature continuously rises. Just like people need to cool down after being out under the sun all day long, your car needs to cool down too. However, unlike you, your car can’t shower itself and eat ice cream, which is why it’s your responsibility to make sure your car gets the care it needs right before the summer months hit and throughout the hot season. Through car detailing, you’ll be able to protect your car from heat damage and the irksome summer elements. Here’s all you need to know in order to protect your car and keep it well-maintained:
Take Your Car to a Car Wash
Before you do anything else, you should always ensure that your car is receiving a good wash from time to time, but especially before major car detailing treatments. After all, you can’t really remove odors or get rid of spiders living in the car’s exterior mirrors without properly cleaning the car. As a result, the first thing you should do is take your car to a professional car wash and have the experts at least do an express wash (which is basically an exterior wash). This is the first step to cooling down your car and giving it its basic need.
Remove Love Bugs That Have Remained Since the Spring
If you haven’t done so yet, then this is the perfect time. Remove love bug corpses (yuck!) that have been decomposing on your car since the spring. The funny thing about love bugs is that they are acidic, which means that their decaying bodies can harm your car’s paint. If you leave them for a long time, they’ll bond with the paint, and then if you try to remove them carelessly, you’ll peel the paint off right along. And it just happens that the most love-bug-overrun part of your car is the front bumper, which can be an ugly sight. No one wants bugs and paint shedding on their cars; consequently, it would be a wise idea to grab WD-40 (a penetrating oil) and spray it evenly over the areas on your car where the love bugs have made themselves comfortable. After a few minutes, gently wipe off those areas with a dry microfiber cloth. All the mess should come off easily.
Protect the Paint with a Wax Treatment
Another great way to take care of your car in the summer is to protect the paint with a wax treatment. The heat, harsh rain, and everyday bugs can take a toll on the paint. Over a couple of months, you might find your car looking dull in color. Therefore, getting a wax treatment is a smart idea. The wax will create a barrier between the sun’s sharp UV rays and the paint, and rain won’t be able to strike the surface as severely anymore. Plus, bugs will have a harder time holding on to the paint, as it will be slippery. All of this is very beneficial for your car.
Condition Leather Seats with a Water-Based, pH-Balanced Conditioner
Let’s not forget that some cars have leather upholstery, such as leather seats. So, if your car has leather, it would be a bad idea to keep your car out in the sun all day long without doing anything to protect the leather from the heat. Doing this will cause the leather seats to crack, ruining your car’s overall value. Thus, purchase a high quality water-based, pH-balanced conditioner and condition the seats when you intend on car detailing. This will keep them well-nourished and strong.
Remove All Dirt to Prevent Odor That Can be Amplified by Heat
Last but not least, be sure to remove any leftover dirt within your car. Dirt can be in any form, like leftover food bags, crumpled receipts, smelly gym clothes, grimy biking equipment that need washing, etc… Take a look at what’s inside your car and in the trunk and throw them or sort them out. Wash anything filthy that you need to keep in the car, and then vacuum the carpets and all over the seats (especially between the seats). A lot of dirt could be hiding in your car and causing terrible odors that are only amplified in the summer heat.
Following these car detailing techniques will help you protect and take care of your car in the summer. Though, these methods are also helpful year round. So be sure to keep your car clean and cool as often as you can.
